Public realm

The above shows the public realm and the events on open space. point 1-6 will be described in detail in below.

Point 1: Waterfront

In order to increase the relationship to water, the waterfront is created as an open space for visitors to get closer to the water and enjoy the view of Royal Docks.

Point 2: Exhibition Pathway

The outdoor exhibition pathway will be located on the plaza. It is an exhibition and art gallery to promote the history of the Mills and the rest of the place in Royal Docks. The below shows examples of exhibition path in real life as a concept.

Point 3: Water feature

People can gather together to play in the water feature, especially to escape the summer heat. This is a safe activities and suitable for people in all ages.

Point 4: Outdoor cinema

Cinema is a large scale event which is a popular lunch time and after work entrainment for local residents and people working in the ExCeL.

Point 5: Streets near the retail shops

Seats and widened pavement are created for visitors to rest and stay within the streets. Most of the retail shops are held by local communities. Attracting visitors to shop the there is beneficial to boost local economy.

Point 6: Streets near the residential buildings

More green space are delivered near the residential buildings to improve air quality and created a lower density area to enhance ventilation and increase the resilience in a post pandemic city.

Point 7: Food truck business

Introducing food truck business can be rewardful. The truck can be driven to different locations to serve people. The business can be held by local residents, benefiting local communities.

Accessibility

The site is a superblock which is highly accessible and walkable. There is a main pedestrian path just next to the Mills. People from ExCeL can access the site easier. The view is also good as the end of the path is the front of Silo D, introducing more people to stay near Silo D.

The path between the mixed use buildings is also accessible for people to reach the Mills through the bridge.

The new bus route is helpful for residential to commute and for visitor to access the site via public transport.
